Day 1: Iquitos – Amazon River – Kukama Community – Monkey Island – Lodge:
The adventure begins with hotel pickup in Iquitos and transfer to the Bellavista Nanay port to board a traditional local boat. You will navigate the Amazon River, admiring the tropical vegetation and watching for pink and gray river dolphins. En route, you will visit the Kukama tribe community to learn about their natural medicine expertise and participate in a traditional dance. Next, you will enter a quiet creek to visit Monkey Island, where you can feed and interact with various species. Upon arrival at the lodge, enjoy a typical regional lunch followed by a brief orientation on local sustainability practices. In the afternoon, take a refreshing swim at the river beaches along with a black mud "flowering bath," watch the Amazonian sunset, and finish the day with dinner and a night walk to spot tarantulas, insects, and frogs.
Day 2: Amazonian Sunrise – Rescue Center – Piranha Fishing – Caiman Spotting:
Start the day early watching the sunrise accompanied by the sounds of local birdlife before enjoying breakfast. Next, head to the Fundo Rony Wildlife Rescue Center to interact with sloths, toucans, macaws, boas, and turtles undergoing rehabilitation. Afterwards, visit a traditional trapiche to sample artisanal macerated infusions like camu camu, 7 roots, and ginger while learning about their medicinal properties. Later on, learn local techniques for traditional piranha fishing using hand-crafted tools relied on by jungle inhabitants. Following a buffet lunch of typical dishes, enjoy free time to relax in the camp surroundings or swim in the lodge pool. After dinner, embark on a night canoe excursion to search for, learn about, and safely release caimans.
Day 3: Botanical Walk – Yanayacu River – Yaguas Tribe – Iquitos:
After breakfast at the lodge, set out on an interpretive botanical walk to discover the primary medicinal plants and giant trees of the Amazon. Next, board a traditional "peque peque" boat to navigate the Yanayacu River and explore a remote area rich in biodiversity. Continue along the Giant Tree Trail to reach the base of the mythical Lupuna tree. Afterward, visit the Yaguas indigenous tribe to learn about their ancestral customs, admire their traditional palm-fiber attire, and test your aim with the "pucuna" (blowgun). Finally, enjoy a farewell buffet lunch at the lodge before boarding the boat back to the port and concluding with the return transfer to the city of Iquitos.
