Full description
Explore Copenhagen's historic center with a local guide, from Christiansborg and Strøget to Nyhavn and Amalienborg, with a visit to Marmorkirken and stories about the city's history.
The tour begins at Christiansborg Slotsplads, in front of the equestrian statue of Frederik VII, where the local guide introduces the history of Christiansborg Palace, seat of the Danish Parliament, which is seen from the outside. From there, the group continues to Gammel Strand and Højbro Plads, where the statue of Bishop Absalon is the starting point for learning about the origins of Copenhagen and its growth as a port city.
The walk continues along Strøget, one of the oldest pedestrian streets in Europe, with stops at Storkespringvandet, Nikolaj Kunsthal and the historic Magasin du Nord department store. Next comes Kongens Nytorv, home to the Hotel d'Angleterre and the old stage of the Royal Danish Theatre, before passing Skuespilhuset, the playhouse on the waterfront.
One of the highlights is Nyhavn, the canal lined with colorful houses, where there is a photo stop while the guide talks about its maritime history and its connection with Hans Christian Andersen. The route continues to the Amalienborg Palace square, residence of the Danish royal family, and ends with a visit inside Frederiks Kirke, known as Marmorkirken, subject to the church not being closed for religious services or concerts.
As it is run in small groups, the tour makes it easy to follow the guide's explanations and ask questions along the way.
