This nighttime tour explores Edinburgh's darkest history on foot, through historic cemeteries and hidden alleyways, uncovering legends, real events and even scientific investigations linked to the city's most unexplained phenomena.
Throughout its history, Edinburgh has witnessed brutal events, murders and witch burnings. The echoes of these stories have survived through time and remain deeply embedded in the closes and graveyards explored after nightfall, when the atmosphere is at its most intense.
The route moves away from the most touristic areas to travel back to a time when life beyond the city walls was forbidden. Through carefully selected stories and visual projections, the guide reveals the Edinburgh its former inhabitants once experienced; more than once, history proves darker than legend.
The itinerary includes stops in front of St Giles' Cathedral, Mercat Cross, the hidden closes of the Old Town, Tron Kirk and Hunter Square, Scotsman Steps and North Bridge, and the South Bridge Vaults on Niddry Street, before concluding at Greyfriars Kirkyard, where the stories of grave robbers, the tragic fate of the Covenanters and the legend of Bloody Mackenzie, one of Scotland's most feared spirits, are told.
