Despite its evolution, it has retained its own cathedral, the city’s oldest market and an unparalleled cultural heritage as the birthplace of English theatre, closely associated with William Shakespeare. The neighbourhood was also once a bustling port and industrial area, and today its buildings have been reinvented and repurposed to house museums, theatres, markets and restaurants, giving it a vibrant and contemporary character.
The tour begins at Embankment Underground Station, from where we will cross the River Thames via the impressive Embankment Bridge to reach the charming Bankside, an area that combines the old with the modern. From here, we head towards the magnificent Southwark Cathedral, one of London’s oldest churches, with a history dating back more than a thousand years. Right next to it is Borough Market, London’s oldest market, famous for its wide variety of fresh, high-quality products and its vibrant atmosphere. Beneath the imposing skyscraper The Shard, the market is a meeting place for food lovers and a perfect spot to enjoy local flavours.
We continue towards the iconic Tower Bridge, one of the most famous and photographed bridges in the world. This Victorian-style bascule bridge is an engineering marvel and offers impressive views of the river and the city. Before reaching the bridge, we will stop at HMS Belfast, a warship turned floating museum that played a crucial role during the Second World War. On board HMS Belfast, you can explore its decks and discover what life was like aboard a warship.
The tour ends in front of London City Hall, a modern building designed by renowned architect Norman Foster, distinguished by its distinctive shape and environmentally friendly design. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, a historic fortress that has witnessed some of the most important events in English history.
