This full-day shore excursion from either Catania Port or Messina Port is the perfect way to experience two of Sicily’s most iconic destinations: Mount Etna and the charming town of Taormina, ideal for cruise passengers seeking an unforgettable island adventure.
After meeting your driver outside the selected port, you will travel to the southern side of Mount Etna, reaching Rifugio Sapienza at approximately 1900 meters above sea level. Here, you can independently explore the Silvestri Craters, a fascinating volcanic area that showcases the power and history of Europe’s highest and most active volcano.
For those who wish, there is the opportunity to ascend to higher elevations, up to 2800 meters, by cable car and 4x4 vehicles, weather and volcanic conditions permitting. From the upper slopes, you will admire lava fields, dramatic landscapes and breathtaking panoramic views. Ascent fees are not included and must be paid on site.
Depending on the cruise ship schedule and only if the ascent is not taken, guests departing from Catania may add a wine tasting and lunch at a local winery, available upon request at the time of booking.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Taormina, Sicily’s most famous resort town, where you will enjoy free time to explore its elegant streets or visit the ancient Greek-Roman Theatre independently, renowned for its spectacular setting.
At the end of the tour, return to Catania Port or Messina Port after a memorable day discovering Sicily’s natural and cultural highlights.
