Athens, the Hellenic capital with over three thousand years of history, is one of the oldest inhabited cities and the largest in Greece. Our panoramic tour guides travelers through this cradle of Western civilization, where the glorious past coexists with modern dynamism. The visit starts from the terminal opposite Hadrian's Arch, making a first stop at the Panathenaic Stadium, known as Kalimarmaro, built entirely of marble and home to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
We continue the tour by bus along the most important avenues. In Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) is the Parliament, where you can see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and witness the traditional Changing of the Guard by the Evzones. We continue along Panepistimiou Avenue (University Avenue), with a panoramic view of Neoclassical buildings such as the Academy, the Faculty, and the National Library, until we reach Omonia Square, a center of commercial activity, from where we head towards the National Historical Museum.
The central part of the tour is the visit to the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis, where expert guides explain the works of the Golden Age of Pericles, including the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the iconic Parthenon, a symbol of Democratic Athens. Finally, we will visit the modern Acropolis Museum. This museum houses the findings of the archaeological site, and its design pays homage to the Parthenon. The pieces safeguarded, which include copies of friezes and the caryatid, are a testament to the history of the hill and a clear claim against the plundered heritage.
