This private tour visits the Galleria Borghese, the former villa of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, to follow the evolution of sculpture and painting from the Renaissance to the Baroque. The meeting point is in front of the gallery's main entrance, where the guide introduces the villa's 17th-century origins before entering with timed tickets.
On the ground floor, the guide explains how the cardinal assembled one of the most important art collections in history and stops in front of Bernini's sculptures, such as The Rape of Proserpina and Apollo and Daphne. The route continues through the room dedicated to Caravaggio, with works such as David with the Head of Goliath, and looks at the artist's life and his dramatic use of light and shadow.
On the upper floors are works from the High Renaissance, such as Raffaello's Deposition and Tiziano's Sacred and Profane Love. The visit ends in front of Canova's Paolina Bonaparte; afterwards, the guide says goodbye inside the gallery or near the exit, and you can stroll on your own through the public gardens surrounding the villa.
