Discover the enchanting world of The Sound of Music by visiting the original film locations in Salzburg and its surroundings. This tour takes you on a journey through the picturesque World Heritage City of Salzburg, as well as the breathtaking landscapes where the opening scenes of the iconic movie were filmed.
The Sound of Music, based on the "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers," was a huge success when it was released in 1964. Today, it remains a beloved classic and has achieved cult status over the years. This tour will take you on a journey through time, following the traces of the Trapp family, and exploring the historical and architectural landmarks of Salzburg and the Lake District.
You will visit all of the original film settings, including the stunning Mirabell Gardens, where the song "Do-Re-Mi" was filmed, and the Leopoldskron Castle, which offers a spectacular view of Lake Leopoldskron, where the famous boating scene was filmed. You'll also see the Hellbrunn Garden, where the gazebo featured in the song "16 going on 17" and the kissing scene of Liesl and Rolf is located.
As you pass by the Nonnberg Abbey, where the "real" Maria was a novice and also got married to Baron von Trapp, you'll learn more about the history of the abbey, which is still an active women's convent today. You'll also have a chance to explore the Salzburg Lake District area, where you'll drive past Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang, which were used for panorama shots and scenes of the picnic.
Finally, you'll visit the town of Mondsee, where the famous church where the wedding of Maria and Baron von Trapp was filmed in the movie is located. After the tour, you'll have some free time to explore this picturesque town on your own.
