Full description
A walking tour that follows in the footsteps of Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce's Ulysses, through the places in Dublin that inspired the novel
This walking tour follows part of the route taken by Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce's Ulysses, on 16 June 1904 — the date that gave rise to Bloomsday. The starting point is near one of the places linked to the childhood of one of the novel's characters, and the tour ends at the place where Bloom had lunch in the story.
The route passes by the house of Oliver St John Gogarty (the inspiration for the character Buck Mulligan), Belvedere College and the James Joyce Centre, Finn's Hotel and Sweny's Pharmacy, Merrion Square (with Oscar Wilde's former home), O'Connell Street and the National Library, and the James Joyce statue, before finishing at Davy Byrne's Pub, where the tour ends.
It's especially designed for those just beginning to explore Joyce's work, although those who already know it enjoy it too. As it takes place in small groups, there's time for questions and to dig deeper into the literary references at each stop.
