Discover the high valleys of northern Argentina on this unforgettable excursion that blends majestic landscapes, rich history, and charming mountain towns. We depart from the city of Salta heading toward the province of Jujuy to explore the renowned Quebrada de Humahuaca and reach the magical village of Iruya, nestled deep in the mountains.
Along the way, we pass through traditional towns such as Purmamarca, home to the famous Hill of Seven Colors, and Huacalera, where you'll see the unique rock formation known as La Pollera de la Coya. As we ascend, the scenery becomes more arid and dramatic. The road transforms into a scenic mountain route with incredible panoramic views, passing through the village of Iturbe and reaching Apacheta Abra del Cóndor at 4,000 meters above sea level.
Iruya greets us with its peaceful atmosphere and traditional architecture. Perched between peaks and full of cobblestone streets, this hidden gem enchants visitors with its simplicity, warm locals, and stories sung in ancient folk tunes. After exploring the town, we begin our return journey, stopping in Humahuaca for free time to enjoy lunch and explore the main plaza.
On the way back to Salta, we make additional scenic stops in Uquía—home to the historic church of the Arquebusier Angels—the Tropic of Capricorn marker in Huacalera, and the painter’s palette-shaped hill of Maimará. This tour is perfect for those who wish to dive deep into the culture and beauty of northern Argentina’s highland region.
