Discover the grandeur and history of the United States’ capital with this full-day excursion to Washington D.C., a journey filled with culture, symbolism, and national pride. Departing early from Manhattan, you’ll travel with an expert Spanish-speaking guide who will share fascinating facts and stories as you pass through the states of New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland on your way to Virginia and Washington D.C.
We’ll make a short stop in Delaware for breakfast before continuing toward Virginia, where we’ll drive past the Pentagon, headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense. Our first stop will be at Arlington National Cemetery, the resting place of thousands of war veterans and notable figures such as President John F. Kennedy and his family.
Next, we’ll pass by the Iwo Jima Memorial, a powerful tribute to the U.S. Marine Corps, before heading to the iconic National Mall. Here, you’ll visit Washington’s most symbolic landmarks, including the Vietnam War Memorial, the Three Soldiers Monument, the Lincoln Memorial —where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his legendary “I Have a Dream” speech— and the Korean War Memorial.
The journey continues past the Federal Reserve, the Washington Monument —known as the “Obelisk”—, the Reflecting Pool, the World War II Memorial, the Organization of American States, and the International Red Cross. We’ll then arrive at the exterior of the White House, where you’ll have time to take photos and learn about Conchita, the peace activist who lived outside the building for decades protesting nuclear weapons, whose legacy continues through Philipos Melaku-Bello.
We’ll continue past Ford’s Theatre, the site of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, and the headquarters of the FBI, before visiting the south side of the U.S. Capitol. You’ll then have around 45 minutes of free time for lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll begin our return to New York, arriving back in Manhattan between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m., depending on traffic. Weather and time permitting, we’ll make a final stop at the Weehawken viewpoint in New Jersey for stunning views of the Manhattan skyline at sunset.
Throughout the tour, your professional guide will provide insightful commentary about the monuments, landmarks, and history that define this great nation. Please note that the itinerary may vary due to traffic or weather conditions.
