You will visit Herculaneum, an ancient Roman city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. Although smaller than other archaeological sites in the area, you will find that its historical significance is essential, especially thanks to the extraordinary state of preservation in which its spaces and structures have survived to this day.
This experience will allow you to understand how Herculaneum was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Based on the objects recovered during the excavations, you will better understand the relationship its inhabitants had with the deities worshipped in antiquity. In this context, you will find notable references to Hercules, the mythical hero to whom tradition attributes the city’s founding and whose presence shapes part of the site’s historical narrative.
With an expert local archaeological guide, you will take an approximately 1.5-hour guided tour of the most significant areas of the site. During the visit, you will see emblematic spaces such as the public baths, where you will admire frescoes and mosaics, as well as commercial areas, shops, and spaces linked to social life, such as the gymnasium. As you proceed, you will delve into the daily life of ancient Herculaneum through scattered ruins that remain remarkably well preserved.
