You will discover one of the most unique cities in southern Italy on a half-day excursion that combines history, architecture and distinctive landscapes. This tour will allow you to explore Matera, a destination declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and understand why its ancient rock-carved dwellings make it such an exceptional place.
At the beginning of the experience, you will travel from Bari in a modern and comfortable bus, crossing the Apulian countryside for approximately one hour. Upon arrival in Matera, you will be welcomed by a local guide who will begin a walking tour of about one hour and fifteen minutes through the city’s most representative areas.
During the guided visit, you will walk through the famous Sassi of Matera, ancient rock-carved dwellings recognized by UNESCO. Along the route, you will discover narrow alleys, rock churches and panoramic viewpoints, while your guide explains the city’s millennia-old history and shares facts and stories that help illustrate everyday life in this unique setting.
At the end of the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Matera at your own pace. During this time, the guide will recommend downloading an audio guide that will allow you to continue exploring the site independently. You may visit a cave house, stop at viewpoints to take photographs or simply enjoy the timeless atmosphere of the place. The experience will conclude with the return to Bari, after an excursion designed to discover Matera in a comfortable, clear and well-structured way.
