Full description
We depart at 08:00 am from Brussels city centre, and travel to the city where houses have no curtains and the home to the narrowest house of the world. Enjoy this eccentric city with an English-speaking guide, and discover the magic atmosphere of the channels, while walking through the Red District Light.
You will have 4 hours of free time for lunch after the guided tour to explore the city as you please. Our guides will recommend some of the best fish shops, or you can try the best muffins and pop into the legendary coffee shops.
The first area you will see once arrived in Amsterdam is the Central Station, which is the heart of the city. It has the biggest public transport transfer spot, serving both tourists and local people. Here you will be told a short history of the city.
The Dam Square, one of our most important stops, is the very centre of the city, and it was first founded here in the XIII century. We can see many historical buildings in this square, such as the New Church, The Royal Palace and the obelisk built a national monument in honour of the fallen in World War II.
The Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) is one of the most important churches in Amsterdam. It was built in the 15th century when the Oude Kerk became too small to accommodate all the inhabitants of the growing city of Amsterdam. Today, it hosts a great number of cultural exhibits and concerts.
As you will discover, Amsterdam has a great amount of magnificent medieval buildings, and among them are its many Gothic churches. At the heart of the city centre and the Red Light District, stands the Oude Kerk (Old Church). Built in 1306, it is the oldest building in Amsterdam.
Our guide will also take us to the Royal Palace. During the Dutch Golden age, when Holland was the commercial hub of the world, this area was home to the Stock Market. Now the Royal Palace is used by the royal family for official receptions and state visits.
We will also see the Anne Frank House Museum. One of the most important tourist attractions in Amsterdam, it was created to be a reminder of what its walls had hidden during the Second World War. Here was the hiding place of eight people, including Anne Frank, for more than two years until August 1944, when they were arrested by the German SS after an anonymous informer tipped them off.
The old Jewish quarter, another stop on our guided visit to Amsterdam, is where Rembrandt’s old house is located. It has now become one of the most popular quarters in Amsterdam thanks to the Waterlooplein market.
We will end the tour at the Flower Market, with its shops spread out along the canal filling it with life and colour. Fun fact: it is the only floating flower market in the world, and one of the most fragrant places of the city.
After the guided tour, you will have 4 hours of free time to have lunch and explore the city as you please, tasting the delicious cheese and visiting the several coffee shops. We will stay in Amsterdam until 17:30, and then we will go back to Brussels at around 20:30.
