Embark on an exciting journey through the history and natural beauty of La Coruña and the Rías Altas, starting with the charming town of Betanzos. Located in the As Mariñas region, Betanzos was once the bustling commercial centre of a rich and prosperous valley, supplying La Coruña with wheat and other products. Its medieval architecture is an extraordinary jewel that transports us to past times of splendour.
We continue our journey to La Coruña, the capital of the province, a coastal city in constant evolution. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on a peninsula, La Coruña is divided into three distinct areas: the historic city, an impressive monumental complex; the city centre, affectionately known as Pescadería, where traditional shops and bars coexist with an excellent regional gastronomic offer; and the modern city, the Ensanche, where international brand-name shops mingle with urban life.
In Betanzos, we will explore its fascinating Old Town, home to treasures such as the Church of Santa María de Azogue and the Monastery of San Francisco. Then, in La Coruña, we will marvel at the imposing Lighthouse of Hercules, a Roman lighthouse that is still in operation and is considered the oldest in the world.
This journey will take us through centuries of history and culture, as we discover the charms of these Galician cities and their unique natural environment. At the end of the day, we will return to Santiago de Compostela, with vivid memories of our experiences in La Coruña and the Rías Altas.
