Full description
Guided tour in Spanish of Prague's Jewish Quarter, with entrance to its synagogues and the old cemetery, to learn about the history of the Jewish community.
Explore Prague's Jewish Quarter, known as Josefov, with a licensed professional guide who explains the history of one of the city's most important districts. Founded in the 10th century, the quarter suffered a pogrom and became Prague's first walled ghetto.
The visit includes entrance to the Old-New Synagogue, built in the 13th century and considered the oldest surviving synagogue today, and to the Maisel, Pinkas and Klausen synagogues, as well as the Ceremonial Hall and the Old Jewish Cemetery. The quarter enjoyed its greatest prosperity in the 16th century, under the rule of Mayor Maisel, and the cemetery, in use between the 15th and 18th centuries, holds more than 60,000 graves.
In the 19th century the quarter was renamed Josefov. During the 20th century it was spared from Nazi occupation, which intended to turn it into a museum of the "vanished race", and it gathered one of the largest collections of Jewish objects in Europe. It is a visit designed for those who want to learn about Prague's Jewish heritage and its history, in groups of up to 30 people.
