Be inspired by a very pleasant walk in the historical heart of the city to most famous sites of Madrid and then discover the sumptuous Royal residence without waiting in long lines. In a single morning or afternoon, you will walk through centuries and discover top attractions of Madrid and its never ending story.
This itinerary begins at Plaza de Canalejas. We start our walking itinerary with one of the main highlights of the city: Puerta del Sol. Located in the hearth of Madrid, Puerta del Sol is one of the nerve centres of Madrid and can not be missed during your stay in Madrid. It features several attractions, such as the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue, next to Alcalá Street, and the equestrian statue of Charles III standing nine metres tall. Our next stop is Plaza Mayor, the city’s most famous icon, we will enjoy all the many stories from this spectacular square. From there we will walk along Calle de la Sal, until we arrive at Calle de Mayor and have a break at the famous San Gines Chocolate Shop if you want. We will then walk along the typical streets of the city centre and we will pass by one of the loveliest of urban enclaves, we will visit Calle del Cordón and Plaza de la Villa with its typical Market: El Mercado de San Miguel.
Continuing our walk along the Almudena Cathedral we will reach the imposing Royal Palace, we are ready for the second part of the private tour! The Royal Palace is a must-see in Madrid! Built in the 18th century on the site of a medieval Moorish Alcazar, the palace was home to the Bourbon dynasty until 1931. Filled with lavish furnishings, beautiful tapestries, frescoes and elegant furniture, the Royal Palace is still used for official state functions. The walking itineray inside the the Royal Palace in Madrid includes the Royal Armoury, the Royal Kitchen and the splendid Throne Room. It also features the stunning Painting Gallery which showcases priceless artworks by some of Spain’s most famous artists including Velazquez and Goya. You also have the possibility to watch every Wednesday the Changing of the Royal Guard at the Puerta del Principe from 11.00 a.m. (except when Official events take place and on August-September months).
