You will take a full-day excursion from Rome to discover Tuscany and Umbria, traveling through landscapes of rolling hills, vineyards, and historic towns while an expert local guide helps you understand the history and character of inland Italy. Throughout the day, you will visit Civita di Bagnoregio, a winery and restaurant in the Tuscan countryside, and the medieval city of Orvieto, on a route designed to show a more serene and authentic Tuscany and Umbria.
The day will begin with the journey to Civita di Bagnoregio, known as the “dying city,” perched on cliffs and surrounded by the landscape of the Valle dei Calanchi. You will cross its iconic bridge and explore the old town, observing up close the stone formations and natural setting that explain the fragility and uniqueness of this place, as you walk through its streets with a constant sense of discovery.
Afterwards, you will continue to a renowned estate and vineyard in Tuscany, where you will enjoy a three-course countryside lunch paired with a tasting of five wines. In this experience, you will sample selected varieties, with Brunello di Montalcino reds taking center stage, along with regional specialties such as panzanella, salami, capocollo, wild boar sausage, and Tuscan pecorino cheese, in a setting of vineyards and open views over the rural landscape.
After lunch, you will head into the Umbria region to visit Orvieto, a medieval city rising among hills and wide panoramas. There you will enjoy an approximately two-hour guided exploration, with time to appreciate the historic atmosphere of the center and understand how this area has preserved its identity, before making the final return to Rome by coach, ending a day that will have combined heritage, gastronomy, and landscapes in the heart of Italy.
