The day begins with an independent departure from Tokyo Station to Kanazawa, starting a cultural journey through some of the most authentic landscapes of traditional Japan. The tour includes a visit to Shirakawago, a picturesque village designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri houses with steep thatched roofs designed to withstand heavy snowfall. Upon arrival, there is free time for lunch at your own expense and to stroll through the quiet streets, where historic architecture, craft workshops, and a rural atmosphere create a timeless setting.
The experience continues at Kenrokuen Garden, regarded as one of the most beautiful traditional gardens in Japan. Its serene ponds, elegant bridges, stone lanterns, and carefully designed paths create a harmonious environment that changes with the seasons and reflects Japan’s deep connection with nature.
Later, the itinerary heads to one of Kanazawa’s historic districts, Nishi Chaya or Nagamachi, depending on the day. Nishi Chaya features traditional teahouses that evoke the elegance of the Edo period, while Nagamachi, the former samurai district, charms visitors with its stone-paved streets and preserved residences from centuries past.
The day concludes with a return to Kanazawa Station to board the train back to Tokyo, after a journey filled with cultural heritage, living history, and unforgettable scenery from the Hokuriku region. This tour offers a complete and memorable experience of Japan’s traditional spirit and its harmonious relationship with nature.
