Enjoy this outstanding stroll visiting the best of neighborhoods in Paris
Along the Seine River, between the Left Bank and the Right Bank (Rive Droit and Rive Gauche), near the Ile de la Cité, there are three splendid districts which represent a concentration of fascinating history that has no equal in Paris. We will walk in this hypothetical triangle of art and culture and discover the beauties of these neighborhoods with our guide.
Meet our guide in the heart of Le Marais and start this unique experience in private. In the 17th century this area was prime real estate for aristocrats to build grand private mansions. This tour takes you into the courtyards and gardens of some of the finest examples, illustrating the lavish lifestyle of the times. Today its quiet medieval streets and sophisticated squares make the Marais one of the city’s most inspiring neighborhoods, epitomizing the classy-cool mystique of Paris. You will revisit engaging tales of the blood-soaked French Revolution and see the breathtaking Hôtel de Ville. A stroll through the Jewish quarter will reveal Yiddish bakeries, kosher delis and world-famous falafel sandwiches. A tour of the Marais would not be complete without a walk along the Village Saint Paul with its antique shops, art galleries & eateries in an old-fashioned enclave with cobblestone street, and the beautiful Place des Vosges, the former Royal Square, which hosts famous art galleries as well as gourmet cafés. During the itinerary, we will have time for a fast break and taste some delicious pastry and chocolate.
After the visit of Le Marais, we will cross the Seine River and will immerse in the Latin Quarter. There is a reason why writers like Hemingway and Fitzgerald lived in the Latin Quarter, and this private tour will make that painfully clear. From the most ancient Roman ruins to the sets for Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” this Latin Quarter tour will walk you through the centuries that have shaped this Left Bank neighborhood. Dig up its intellectual roots at the Sorbonne University or by discussing famous thinkers buried under the Pantheon’s majestic dome. Walk along the beautiful Boulevard Saint Michel, reach the imposing Luxembourg Palace and admire the magnificent Luxembourg gardens, which will leave you wanting to have a picnic!
Annex to the Latin Quarter, we will enter in Saint-Germain-des-Prés to start the last part of our private tour. Over the years, St-Germain-des-Prés has been a meeting place for intellectuals, a center of the post-war Jazz Age and a bohemian hub for artists and writers. And nowadays it’s a fashionable neighborhood full of designer boutiques and swanky restaurants. So this stroll will be along the most favorites spots in the district, admiring past historic churches, museums and gardens. And, of course, there will be some eating and drinking along the way too. The district is housing some of the best churches in Paris, so our walking itinerary will not miss these authentic gems of architecture. The Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Church of Saint Sulpice are certainly some of the topic inclusions of our stroll. During our itinerary we will have time for a fast break to taste some delicious cheese with a glass of great wine.
The tour ends in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. After the tour, you can choose to keep walking in this area for a self-visit in this beautiful neighborhood, or take the opportunity enjoy a self-stroll at the nearby Ile de la Cité with Notre Dame Cathedral as its best highlights.
