Rome may be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but after dark a more sinister, mysterious side emerges. The ghosts of popes, emperors and artists seem to lurk on every corner, marked by more than 2,000 years of tragedy and conspiracy. This walking tour isn't for the faint-hearted: a guide with a passion for ghost stories reveals chilling tales of beheadings and murder, brought to life with visual recreations that add to the atmosphere.
The tour begins at Campo de' Fiori, beneath the statue of Giordano Bruno, one of Rome's greatest minds, who crossed the Church and paid with his life. From there, the route winds through the city's medieval backstreets, uncovering tiny statues known as "mandonelles" on every corner, Piazza Farnese and its legend of a secret passageway, the Sisto Bridge and its history of power struggles and suspicious deaths, a poisoned fountain, a former perfumery where cosmetics once proved deadly, and a 17th-century church decorated with human bones as a reminder of life's fragility.
The route also passes the former site of one of Rome's most feared prisons and the childhood home of one of its most infamous executioners, before concluding at the imposing Castel Sant'Angelo and the Sant'Angelo Bridge, the setting for the most brutal story of the whole tour.

● Our Rome Ghost Tour covers topics like death, murder and ghosts, which may not be appropriate for younger children. However, children are welcome to join with parental discretion and supervision

● Rome's cobbled streets can be challenging for wheelchair users, but we'll do our best to accommodate your needs if you contact us ahead of time
