Step onto the Colosseum arena floor through the Gladiator's Gate on an exclusive tour that also covers Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, with an expert guide and small group.
Channel your inner gladiator as you step out onto the Colosseum arena floor, a recently reopened area of the world-famous amphitheatre, accessed through the Gladiator's Gate, the very route gladiators themselves took almost 2,000 years ago before facing the cheers and jeers of 50,000 spectators. Unlike regular Colosseum tours, this experience takes you straight into the heart of the ancient amphitheatre, alongside an expert guide and a small group of like-minded travellers. Your guide will transport you back to the height of the Roman Empire, when Rome was ruled by all-powerful emperors and the Colosseum served as the city's main stage for showing off conquered animals and peoples.
After a short break, the tour continues up Palatine Hill, the site where the ancient city was founded and a genuine archaeological wonder, home to settlements ranging from the Iron Age to the 16th century. Highlights include the Hut of Romulus, Rome's legendary founder, and the Imperial Palace, the setting for ruling, politicking and scheming among the imperial family, as well as some of the best panoramic views of the city.
The tour concludes at the Roman Forum, the beating heart of ancient Roman public life, once a bustling hub of markets, law courts and temples. It was here that Julius Caesar was cremated, where victorious triumphs paraded with the spoils of Roman conquests, where two disgraced emperors were murdered in 69 AD, and where Cicero delivered the speeches that shaped Western culture for centuries. Once the tour ends, you're free to stay and explore the Roman Forum at your own pace.
