Bayonne lies at the mouth of the River Nive, where it joins the Adour, dividing the city into two parts known colloquially as "Big Bayonne" and "Little Bayonne". For lunch, head to the famous seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, whose rich history is linked to the marriage of Louis XIV, as well as its past as a haven for pirates and privateers.
