Discover everything the great region of the Peloponnese has to offer, along with the archaeological site of Delphi, on this three-day tour. The first day begins with departure from our terminal towards the Corinth Canal, where we will make our first stop. If you are lucky, you may witness a ship passing through the canal while a train circulates over the bridge. We will travel back three thousand years to visit the strategic enclave of the powerful Mycenae, the city of the Atreides cursed by the gods. Its impressive ruins evoke the memory of this city-fortress of the 2nd millennium B.C., "rich in gold" in Homer's words. We will begin the visit by appreciating the Cyclopean walls, walking through the famous Lion Gate and exploring the acropolis, its palace, and the Treasury of Atreus or Tomb of Agamemnon. We will also visit the site's museum. Later, we will delve into the culture of the 4th century B.C. at the Sanctuary of Asclepius in Epidaurus, the hero and god of Medicine. Here, the beautiful Theater of Epidaurus, known for its majestic lines and perfect acoustics, was used for the healing of the soul through intellectual pastimes. In the afternoon, traversing the central Peloponnese, we arrive at Olympia, where we will have dinner and stay at 3 or 4-star hotels.
The second day is dedicated to the ruins of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games and a symbol of ancient Greek unity. We will visit the remains of the buildings for sports celebrations (gymnasium, palaestra, workshop of Phidias) and the sanctuary that housed the Statue of Olympian Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the Antiquity. After visiting the Stadium and the Museum of Olympia, we return towards the mainland, crossing the majestic Rio-Antirio suspension bridge. We will arrive in Delphi for dinner and accommodation.
The third day explores Delphi, the "navel of the universe" and a main religious center where pilgrims consulted the Oracle of Apollo. We will walk the Sacred Way, decorated with countless offerings and treasuries like the Treasury of the Athenians, up to the Temple of Apollo. The immersion culminates with a visit to the Delphi Museum, which houses essential artifacts including a copy of the omphalos and the perfectly preserved statue of the Charioteer of Delphi. Finally, we return to Athens, passing the picturesque town of Arahova.
