Full description
A day trip to Loch Ness and Glencoe, taking in some of the most dramatic scenery in the Scottish Highlands, with return transport included from Edinburgh
Step aboard our comfortable, air-conditioned coach as we head northwest out of Edinburgh, leaving the city behind. Along the way we pass Stirling Castle, before our first stop at Kilmahog in the Highlands for some light refreshments — depending on the time of year, you might even spot a Highland cow.
The journey continues through Rob Roy Country and Campbell, before taking in the dramatic landscape of Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount on the way to Glencoe. Here you'll enjoy a photo stop to take in Scotland's most famous glen.
Skirting Loch Linnhe, the tour stops for lunch in the Fort William area before continuing through the natural beauty of the Great Glen, passing beneath Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. We then travel through the pretty village of Fort Augustus before reaching Urquhart Castle, where you can choose to add a cruise combined with castle entry as an optional, payable extra.
The next stop is the Clansman Hotel, where you'll have free time before setting off on the return journey to Edinburgh. Here you can choose to join a gin tasting with Great Glen Gins (optional, payable extra, which includes a 10% shop voucher), explore the area on your own — such as the Old Coffin Road walk, which starts at the hotel car park — or add a round-trip cruise along the loch with views of Urquhart Castle, also an optional, payable extra. Loch Ness, 24 miles long and over 700 feet deep, is best known for sightings of its famous monster, "Nessie".
The return journey to Edinburgh passes through Cairngorms National Park and the woodland scenery of Perthshire, taking in the Forest of Atholl, with an evening refreshment stop in the pretty Victorian town of Pitlochry, before arriving back in Edinburgh.
