Enjoy a unique experience in Argentine Patagonia with this unforgettable excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier from El Calafate, combining sailing, ice hiking, and direct contact with the imposing nature of Los Glaciares National Park. The adventure begins by taking Provincial Route 11 toward the Magallanes Peninsula, until you reach the "Bajo de las Sombras" port.
There, you will board a boat to cross Lago Rico, sailing for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the opposite shore, right in front of the imposing south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon disembarking, mountain guides will greet you and guide you to a shelter equipped with restroom facilities, where this ice crossing will begin.
The activity continues with an initial hike of approximately one kilometer along the shore of the lake. During this section, the guides will provide an introduction to glaciology in general and the specific features of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Once at the edge of the glacier, small groups of up to 20 people will be organized to put on crampons and helmets, receive a safety briefing, and begin the most anticipated experience: the glacier hike.
Accompanied at all times by specialized guides, you will explore an icy world of incredible beauty. For approximately an hour and a half, you will walk on the ice, traversing an uneven surface with ups and downs and surprising formations typical of a glacier: crevasses, sinkholes, seracs, and intensely blue lagoons. This hike is of medium difficulty, ideal for those seeking an adventure activity surrounded by nature.
After completing the walk on the ice, you will return via a footbridge that crosses the lush Andean Patagonian forest, with views that complement the experience. You will then re-embark to cross the lake back to the starting point.
From there, a short 7 km ground transfer will take you to the famous Perito Moreno Glacier walkways, where you'll have free time to admire the majestic ice wall rising above the water from different viewpoints. Whether from the main balcony or following the self-guided trails, the panoramic views of the glacier offer a perfect farewell before returning to El Calafate.
